“I chose the curauá fiber for the development of a special paper to be used with natural water-based pigments with a dots technique, a technique I used more than 20 years ago. The round point of the stick on the square grid allows the analogy of the Sky touching the Earth at each point.

I have chosen to draw inspiration from the patterns of Kadiwéus’ paintings, one of the 230 Brazilian indigenous tribes, as their drawings have had a deep impact on me. I had the opportunity of spending three days in one of the Kadiwéus village, after which I researched the meanings behind the patterns. Their patterns have multiple meanings e. g. a spiral tattoo indicates protection against both human and the night spirit. They explore the duality of the things, symbols which may represent both good or evil.”, Déa Lopes.
